Gagan Shakti started on 8th april,2018 and was concluded on 23rd april.
Roaring of the fighter jets where enough to deafen the enemy skies. Swift and fearless jets taking off from runway seemed ready to shower hell to the enemies. Flexible and versatile attack helicopters hovering in the sky could easily make the enemy troop run away from the battle field. Layered defensive air defence missile systems kept on tracking the invaders which could become a soul taker for any invader in a real time war. Mission, integrity and excellence were the words going in the minds of fighter pilots which could be heard in the swoosh sound of jaguar and su-30 passing overhead.
A total of 1100 aircrafts were mobilised of which included 600 fighter jets and 500 transport aircraft and attack helicopters. The day and night exercise was led along pakistan border in western fronts, forces than switched to the china border in north. Aircrafts used in this operation were Su 30 MKI, Mikoyan Mig-29,SPECAT jaguar, HAL Tejas,Mig-21, Mig-27, 130J Super Hercules and IL-78 MKI. In a long range strike idea approval, SU30 jets carried out Air-Air refueling and drew multiple targets at ranges in excess of 2000Kms. This exercise included both defensive and offensive strategy, integrated defence operation, all terrain defence operation in real time,seamless integration of sensors, joint operations with indian army, special operations and assault landings. IAF's special force unit 'THE GARUDS" were also seen in action. Joint operations with indian navy in Indian ocean was also overtaken.
It is best said 'you fight like you train' and Indian airforce showed it in this exercise. Indian airforce successfully exercised Gagan Shakti and confirmed its Dominance over the skies.
